A Part of the Whole

Dying takes place out of sight,
when we’re walking the dog or watching TV.
We complain of constraints on our personal rights
when the suffering is something we never see.

Donne wrote that no man is an island,
we are all a part of the whole.
He was diminished by the death of one man.
What of the death of a million souls?
